I find it stupid that peoples talents and work are only truly embraced once they are dead, and more often than not, only good things are said about celebrities once they have died. I am going to use the death of Amy Winehouse as an example. Teen magazine-turned-blog “sugarscape” shocked me with the contrast in opinion of Amy Winehouse before and after her death. For example before she died, she was referred to as a “horrible skanky mess”, then after her death she was referred to as “the greatest musical talent of the last decade” and her drug use was described as “tragic” and not “skanky”. It may just be me but I cannot understand why the death of a celebrity it what gains the respect of the media and press.Their life is lived under the spotlight and every move they make is scrutinised and the majority of what is written about them is negative. It shows a lot about the media when the dead receive more respect than those who are living.
